Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | In a reaffirmation of Algeria’s historical and ideological solidarity with global liberation movements, the Minister of Moudjahidine and Rights Holders, Laïd Rebiga, arrived Friday in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, to represent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the official commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.

The minister’s participation in this significant event underscores Algeria’s unwavering support for nations that have fought—and continue to fight—for sovereignty and justice. The Sandinista Revolution, which culminated on July 19, 1979, marked the overthrow of the U.S.-backed Somoza dictatorship and remains a defining moment in Latin America’s anti-imperialist struggle.

Upon arrival, Rebiga was warmly received by prominent Nicaraguan officials, including Presidential Advisor Laureano Ortega, Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke, and Minister-Counselor for International Relations Ivan Lara Palacios. Algeria’s Ambassador to Nicaragua, Ali Menguellati, was also present, reflecting the strength of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Rebiga will take part in Saturday’s commemorative ceremonies alongside dignitaries and high-ranking representatives from several countries known for their friendship and support of Nicaragua’s revolutionary heritage. His presence, on behalf of President Tebboune, is emblematic of Algeria’s principled foreign policy rooted in anti-colonial resistance and mutual respect among nations.

The visit also comes at a time when Algeria is seeking to expand its diplomatic presence in Latin America, deepen South-South cooperation, and elevate its strategic dialogue with countries sharing similar revolutionary legacies.
