Algeria Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to African Integration and Economic Transformation

Algiers, Algeria | Algeria has once again underscored its resolute commitment to African integration and economic transformation, pledging to reinforce continental solidarity and support the ambitious projects spearheaded by the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In a keynote address delivered at the Embassy of Madagascar in Algiers during the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the SADC’s founding, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, hailed the Community as “a model of regional integration built on bold cross-border projects in infrastructure, energy, transport, and industrialization.”

Mansouri emphasized that these initiatives not only strengthen regional value chains but also enhance Africa’s standing in global markets, thereby fostering sustainable growth and economic resilience.

Agenda 2063: The Continent’s Common Horizon

The Algerian official reaffirmed that the African Union’s Agenda 2063 remains the shared strategic blueprint, charting the course toward a united, prosperous, and peaceful Africa. “The focus on competitiveness, diversity, and innovation comes at a decisive juncture as our continent seeks to reposition itself in an international economy undergoing profound and relentless transformation,” she noted.

Algeria is preparing to host the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) from September 4 to 10, an event Mansouri described as “an unprecedented platform for African businesses, innovators, youth, and women entrepreneurs to unlock opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate progress toward a truly unified African market.”

She also commended Zimbabwe’s leadership of the SADC during its term in Algiers, highlighting its clarity of vision, steadfast commitment, and dedicated engagement in advancing regional goals.

Shared Responsibility in the Energy Transition

The ceremony also featured a message delivered by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Algeria, Vusumuzi Ntonga, on behalf of the SADC. He emphasized that the theme of this year’s anniversary — “Promoting Industrialization, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC” — reflects the Community’s unwavering determination to shape Southern Africa into a competitive and integrated economic powerhouse.

Echoing this message, Jeannie Rafalimanana, Chargée d’Affaires at the Embassy of Madagascar in Algiers and current chair of the SADC, underlined the indispensable role of solidarity and shared responsibility in driving sustainable industrialization and energy transition. She stressed that these priorities remain critical for building a resilient development community and elevating Southern Africa’s position on the global stage.
