Algiers, Algeria | January 13th, 2025 — In a significant step toward deepening bilateral energy cooperation, Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi held a high-level meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025, with Sheikh Abdulilah bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Iban, the CEO of the Saudi energy company Al-Madad North Africa. The meeting marks a new phase in advancing the strategic energy partnership between Algeria and Saudi Arabia.
According to an official statement from Sonatrach, the discussions were comprehensive, focusing on finalizing a contractual agreement for the joint exploitation of hydrocarbon resources in the targeted area of Southern Illizi. This collaboration falls within the framework of the protocol agreement signed between the two parties on March 4 of the previous year.
The forthcoming contract, scheduled for signing during the first half of this year, aims to evaluate and develop gas fields in Southern Illizi using an accelerated operational approach. This strategy underscores the mutual commitment of Sonatrach and Al-Madad to enhance bilateral cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration and production. Moreover, the partnership extends beyond resource extraction, targeting broader collaborations across the entire oil and gas value chain, including technological exchange and capacity building.
