ALGIERS- On the sidelines of the signing ceremony for hosting the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair by Algeria in 2025, Minister of Trade Tayeb Zitouni made a noteworthy announcement, stating that Algeria aims to position itself as a leading economic hub in Africa by the year 2025.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of Algeria, Minister Zitouni underscored the nation’s pivotal position as a vital crossroads connecting three continents: Africa, Europe, and Asia. This geographical advantage, he asserted, positions Algeria as a pivotal trading gateway between these continents, qualifying it to evolve into a true regional economic center.

Highlighting the profound economic reforms spearheaded by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister Zitouni noted the comprehensive and integrated approach adopted, yielding tangible results such as a positive trade balance and a surge in non-hydrocarbon exports. These achievements, he emphasized, reflect the successful diversification of Algeria’s economic landscape across various sectors including agriculture, agro-industry, petrochemicals, mining, textiles, electrical equipment, and electronics.

Moreover, Minister Zitouni disclosed Algeria’s initiatives aimed at fostering closer economic ties within Africa. Since 2023, Algeria has embarked on establishing Algerian banks and permanent exhibitions in several African countries, with Mauritania and Senegal as initial destinations. Additionally, the creation of African free trade zones seeks to bolster economic integration across the continent.

In efforts to enhance intra-African trade, Algeria has also undertaken significant transportation infrastructure projects, notably the completion of the African Unity Road linking Algeria to Lagos, benefiting over seven hundred million inhabitants across seven countries. Furthermore, plans are underway for a road connecting Algeria to Mauritania via Tindouf and Zouérat.

Amidst these developments, Minister Zitouni emphasized Algeria’s commitment to expanding its transportation networks, ranking second in Africa for the length of completed roadways, totaling 128,000 kilometers.

Minister Zitouni reiterated that Africa’s vast potential serves as a compelling incentive to establish a robust economy integrated within global value chains. As Algeria advances towards its goal of becoming Africa’s economic powerhouse by 2025, the nation’s strategic vision and concerted efforts underscore its determination to play a leading role in shaping the continent’s economic landscape.
