Algeria Shines at 2025 African Cadet Judo Championships with 13-Medal Haul

A Stellar Performance in Luanda Places Algeria Second Overall, Paving the Way for Continued Dominance in Upcoming Junior Events

Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | Algeria’s cadet judo team delivered a resounding performance at the 2025 African Cadet Judo Championships held on Thursday in Luanda, Angola, securing a total of thirteen medals and asserting its growing stature on the continental stage. With an impressive tally of four gold, three silver, and six bronze medals, the Algerian delegation secured second place in the overall standings, trailing only behind Egypt.

The gold medals were clinched by Chiraz Dahoumane in the -40 kg category, Aleddine Sahraoui (-50 kg), Mohamed Amine Degouah (-60 kg), and Rym Miloudi (+70 kg), showcasing the breadth and talent of Algeria’s next generation of judokas.

The silver medals were added to the tally by Sadek Laouad (-66 kg), Ali Benmechta (-73 kg), and Farès Benghalem (+90 kg), each demonstrating resilience and strategic excellence on the tatami. Meanwhile, six bronze medals were secured by Roumaïssa Abbès (-44 kg), Nacima Benyahia (-57 kg), Larbi Addad (-55 kg), Boualem Aifa (-60 kg), Soheib Zitouni (-81 kg), and Mohamed Sahraoui (-90 kg), underlining Algeria’s competitive depth across multiple weight classes.

With these results, Algeria concluded the championships in second place behind Egypt, who amassed a slightly superior total of 14 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 6 bronze), while Angola, the host nation, completed the podium with 14 medals (3 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze).

The Algerian team was composed of 18 judokas, evenly split between 9 boys and 9 girls, and was led by Zoubida Bouyakoub, member of the Federal Bureau, alongside national coaches Abdessamed Mazari (boys) and Omar Chelihi (girls). Their technical guidance was instrumental in channeling the athletes’ potential into concrete results on the mat.

The competition gathered 139 judokas representing 19 African countries, including 72 boys and 67 girls, making this edition a significant litmus test for emerging judo talent across the continent. The championship also serves as a prelude to the African Junior Judo Championships, set to take place on July 19 in Luanda. Algeria will again be represented by a robust team of 17 athletes (9 boys and 8 girls), aiming to build upon the momentum and further establish its regional dominance.
