Algeria Showcases Its Technological Transformation at the Cairo Arab Telecommunications Council

๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ โ ๐๐ช๐ท๐พ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐๐๐๐ โ Algeria presented its latest technological advances and digital transformation strategy during the 29th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Telecommunications and Information, held in Cairo, as part of its sustained efforts to position itself as a regional actor in the digital economy.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki, participated in the work of this high-level Arab forum, which brought together ministers and heads of delegations from Arab countries, alongside representatives of the League of Arab States.
In his address, Mr. Zerrouki outlined Algeriaโs experience in technological transformation, highlighting the major efforts undertaken under the guidance of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to build a robust and resilient digital infrastructure. He emphasized the strengthening of international telecommunications interconnection, the expansion of very high-speed fixed internet coverage, and the accelerated deployment of fiber-optic networks across the country.
The minister further recalled Algeriaโs decisive steps toward advanced digital technologies, notably the launch of a 5G network compliant with the most stringent international standards, the implementation of strategic data center projects, and the establishment of centers dedicated to artificial intelligence, as well as skills development hubs aimed at empowering youth. In parallel, structural reforms have been carried out within the postal sector to modernize the services of Algรฉrie Poste and enhance its digital solutions, with the objective of improving the quality and efficiency of public service delivery.
Addressing issues of digital governance, Mr. Zerrouki underscored the significance of the โAlgiers Declarationโ on fair, secure, and responsible digital platforms, adopted during the ministerial summit held on the occasion of African Telecommunications Day in December 2025. He described the declaration as a reference framework capable of anchoring the principles of digital sovereignty at the Arab level.
In this context, the minister stressed the importance of harmonizing Arab positions ahead of upcoming international milestones, particularly within the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in addition to pressing issues related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and the digital economy.
Concluding his address at the session, which took place on Thursday, Mr. Zerrouki reaffirmed Algeriaโs steadfast position in support of the Palestinian cause. He also welcomed the recommendations issued by the relevant bodies of the Council, noting that they reflect the spirit of Arab solidarity and collective responsibility in addressing shared challenges.
