Algeria, Slovakia Aim to Strengthen Bilateral Relations in Inaugural Session of Political Consultations

Algiers, Algeria | September 23rd, 2024 — In a significant step towards deepening diplomatic relations, Algeria and Slovakia convened their first session of political consultations at the level of Secretaries-General of the Foreign Ministries. The session, held on Sunday in Algiers, was co-chaired by Lounès Magramane, Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, and Marek Estok, Slovak Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

According to a communiqué issued by the Algerian Foreign Ministry, the two sides engaged in a thorough review of bilateral relations, focusing on strategies to strengthen economic, commercial, and technical cooperation. Both parties welcomed Slovakia’s decision to reopen its embassy in Algiers in the coming months, a move seen as a concrete step toward reinforcing ties between the two nations.

The consultations also addressed a wide array of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the ongoing developments in the Middle East, the Western Sahara conflict, the crisis in Libya, and the security situation in the Sahel region. The communiqué noted that both Algeria and Slovakia are committed to enhancing dialogue and coordination in support of international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable resolutions to these crises.

This inaugural session underscores the growing importance of political consultations in shaping Algeria-Slovakia relations and reflects both countries’ desire to collaborate on pressing global challenges.
