Algiers – December 2025 – In a diplomatic move marking a new chapter in Euro-Maghreb cooperation, Algeria and Slovakia formalized on Tuesday a comprehensive Joint Declaration in Bratislava, following high-level talks between Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar. Algeria and Slovakia jointly assert their support for ongoing international efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and to establish the State of Palestine within the framework of the two-state solution, sending a clear message at a moment when global consensus remains fractured and some Western capitals continue to waver. This joint stance is particularly notable given the growing polarization in Europe over the Gaza question, highlighting Slovakia’s willingness to align with Algeria’s principled, unwavering defense of Palestinian rights.
Equally important is the reaffirmation of both countries’ support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, in strict conformity with relevant United Nations resolutions. This position underscores Algeria’s consistent diplomatic doctrine—rooted in decolonization, international law, and moral responsibility—while signaling Slovakia’s readiness to uphold UN-based solutions despite the geopolitical pressures that often influence European policy debates.
Beyond political solidarity, the talks between Attaf and Blanar delved into the concrete prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors. The discussions reviewed the current state of relations and explored future avenues in energy, renewable energy, pharmaceutical industry, water resources, industrial cooperation, and agriculture, reflecting a shared desire to establish sustainable and mutually beneficial economic ties.
