Algiers, Algeria | July 1st, 2025 — Algeria and Slovenia are paving the way for a comprehensive and strategic partnership, as reaffirmed during a meeting held Tuesday between the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Kramberger Mendek. The courtesy visit was marked by a convergence of political will and mutual ambition to elevate bilateral ties across a broad spectrum of sectors.
The meeting underscored the historical depth of Algerian-Slovenian relations, rooted in mutual respect and cooperation on key regional and global issues—chief among them being the pursuit of peace, sustainable development, climate action, and international stability.
Speaker Azouz Nasri emphasized the urgency of scaling bilateral relations to a more strategic and multidimensional level. He cited the shared vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Slovenian counterpart, President Nataša Pirc Musar, who have shown a resolute commitment to meeting the challenges of an increasingly complex global order. Nasri also highlighted the importance of boosting economic and trade relations, bringing them in line with the already robust political rapport between the two countries.
Parliamentary diplomacy, according to Nasri, plays a vital role in strengthening mutual understanding and in deepening institutional cooperation. He also outlined Algeria’s current trajectory of political and economic reform, particularly in the wake of the country’s newly adopted investment law, designed to attract credible and balanced foreign partnerships.
“Algeria is open to serious and balanced partnerships with EU nations,” declared Nasri, singling out Slovenia as a model of institutional stability and technological advancement. He called on both nations to move decisively toward a strategic, mutually beneficial alliance, particularly in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, digital transformation, pharmaceutical industries, and eco-tourism.
For her part, Ambassador Urška Kramberger Mendek expressed Slovenia’s strong interest in deepening bilateral cooperation and strengthening parliamentary exchanges, joint cultural initiatives, and knowledge transfer in high-potential fields such as higher education, green technology, and sustainable tourism.
On the international front, the two officials reiterated their aligned positions on key geopolitical issues, especially in their coordination within the United Nations Security Council. Both Algeria and Slovenia firmly condemned the ongoing massacres against the Palestinian people, affirming their commitment to supporting Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and its right to an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
They also jointly reaffirmed their adherence to the principles of peaceful conflict resolution, sovereignty of nations, and equitable development, urging the international community to redirect resources toward peace, progress, and human dignity.
