Algeria, Somalia Seal Strategic Diplomatic Accord to Bolster Regional Stability and African Solidarity

Algiers, Algeria | In a step towards deepening bilateral relations and fortifying regional alliances, Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held high-level talks with his Somali counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali, who is on an official visit to Algeria.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions — conducted in the presence of senior delegations from both nations — focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and intensifying coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The meeting served as a platform to commend Somalia’s substantial progress in rebuilding robust and inclusive national institutions. Algeria reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to consolidate security, stability, and development — both bilaterally and through its dual mandate on the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council.

A significant outcome of the talks was the signing of three landmark agreements: the establishment of a Joint Governmental Commission, the creation of a Political Consultation Mechanism, and the promotion of cooperation in the training of diplomats. These accords are set to provide a reinforced institutional and legal framework for sustained partnership.

Both ministers also reaffirmed their resolve for maximum coordination within the United Nations Security Council during their concurrent mandates, with a shared vision to champion Arab causes — foremost the Palestinian question — to advance Africa’s priorities across multiple sectors, and to promote stability and development in strategic regions including the Horn of Africa and the Sahel.
