Algiers, Algeria | December 6th, 2024 — As part of ongoing efforts to deepen economic cooperation, Algeria and South Africa have announced plans to host a significant national products exhibition in Johannesburg during the first quarter of 2025. The exhibition, part of a broader strategy to strengthen trade ties between the two countries, was agreed upon during the Algerian-South African Economic Forum, which took place this Thursday in Algiers.
The event aims to showcase Algerian products and promote trade between the two nations, highlighting Algeria’s growing presence in the South African market. The exhibition will serve as a key platform to demonstrate the quality and diversity of Algeria’s industrial, agricultural, and technological products, and will be a prominent event in Algeria’s push to expand its trade footprint in Africa.
This initiative is a significant step in a series of planned activities designed to enhance the economic and investment relationship between the two countries. According to the final communiqué of the Forum, both parties have agreed to exchange expertise and share experiences across various sectors, such as agriculture, the automotive industry, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, renewable energy, mining, tourism, and information and communication technologies.
In addition to the exhibition, the Forum emphasized the importance of reciprocal participation in major economic events hosted by both nations. Algeria is set to host the fourth session of the Intra-African Trade Fair from September 4 to 10, 2025, with both Algeria and South Africa committed to strengthening their collaboration in this area. The second session of the Algerian-South African Economic Forum will also be held in Johannesburg next year, alongside a joint business council meeting, reinforcing the focus on bolstering trade relations.
The forum saw the participation of over 300 business leaders and economic operators from both countries, spanning a wide range of industries. The participants highlighted the business-friendly environments and investment opportunities in both nations, which encourage further collaboration in key sectors. With both Algeria and South Africa being committed to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), this partnership is expected to further contribute to the economic integration of the continent.
The final communiqué underscored the shared ambition of Algeria and South Africa to build a sustainable, diversified, and relevant economic partnership, one that will benefit both nations in accordance with their mutual vision for economic growth, stability, and progress.
