Algeria Steals the Spotlight in Yokohama: Japanese Investors Eye Gateway to Africa

Algiers, Algeria | Algeria’s presence at the Africa Lounge Exhibition, held from August 20 to 22 on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 2025), captured the attention of Japanese companies eager to expand their footprint in Africa.
At the heart of this strategic showcase stood the pavilion of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), which became a hub of attraction for Japan’s industrial and technological giants. The pavilion highlighted Algeria’s positioning as a rising economic pole and a gateway to the African continent, offering unparalleled opportunities for Japanese firms across diverse sectors.
Representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-Enterprises, Nourdine Ouahdah, attended the event, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to forging robust economic ties with Japan and deepening Africa–Asia cooperation.
A Platform for Strategic Engagement
The exhibition featured 195 participants, bringing together African institutions and Japanese corporations. Algeria’s pavilion stood out as a focal point for companies operating in food industries, automotive manufacturing, electronics, satellite data analytics, railway signaling systems, and animal feed production.
According to the AAPI statement, Japanese companies increasingly view Algeria as the entry point to Africa’s booming markets, drawn by the nation’s strategic geographical position, economic reforms, and investment-friendly legal framework.
Driving Japanese Investment Toward Algeria
The pavilion was animated by Imane Toumi, Director at AAPI, and Ibrahim Salamani, Head of the decentralized one-stop investment office in Skikda. Through direct engagement with Japanese executives, they presented Algeria’s new investment law and economic land reform, showcasing Algeria’s ambition to establish itself as a competitive hub for sustainable growth and industrial innovation.
Their message was clear: Algeria is not only open for business but determined to cement long-term, high-value partnerships with Japanese investors in sectors that will shape the future of Africa’s economy.
By the close of TICAD 2025, Algeria had successfully positioned itself as more than just a participant—it emerged as a strategic interlocutor for Japan’s Africa strategy, combining political stability, resource wealth, and a forward-looking economic agenda.
