Algeria, Stellantis Deepen Strategic Partnership: Push for Local Integration in Automotive Industry

Algiers, Algeria | July 8th, 2025 — In a move to boost Algeria’s industrial sovereignty and transform its automotive sector into a pillar of economic growth, Minister of Industry Sifi Ghrieb received a delegation from Stellantis Group on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. The delegation was led by Samir Cherfaoui, Director of Operations for North and East Africa, accompanied by representatives from Stellantis Middle East and North Africa, including Rawi Al-Baji, the group’s CEO.

During the meeting, Minister Ghrieb emphasized Algeria’s determination to accelerate the pace of local industrial integration and expand the network of domestic subcontractors, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These directives aim to establish a strong, localized industrial base that positions Algeria as a regional automotive hub and ensures sustainable, inclusive economic development.

The minister reaffirmed that the Ministry of Industry stands fully committed to fast-tracking the implementation of these presidential guidelines by facilitating concrete, results-oriented partnerships between international car manufacturers and local suppliers.

“Local content is no longer optional—it is a strategic necessity,” Ghrieb stated, urging Stellantis to go beyond assembly operations and invest deeper into industrial value chains that include Algerian raw materials, engineering, and technical talent.

For his part, Samir Cherfaoui expressed the group’s deep gratitude for the trust placed in Stellantis by the Algerian state, particularly the continuous backing of the President of the Republic. He underscored the multinational’s full mobilization of resources—technical, financial, and human—to increase production capacity and promote domestic industrial capabilities.

“We are working to increase the local integration rate through active support to Algerian subcontractors and suppliers,” Cherfaoui affirmed. He explained that Stellantis’ vision for Algeria extends far beyond vehicle assembly. It includes the development of a complete, high-performance automotive ecosystem that is anchored in long-term strategic planning and shared prosperity.

The meeting also explored mechanisms for deepening industrial partnerships, scaling up local manufacturing, and enhancing the competitiveness of Algerian suppliers through technology transfer, training programs, and R&D initiatives.

In closing, Minister Ghrieb stressed that building a real and sustainable Algerian automotive industry requires unwavering coordination between all stakeholders—public, private, and foreign. He pledged that the ministry will continue to provide the necessary regulatory and institutional support to transform pilot projects into large-scale industrial success stories.
