Algiers, Algeria | June 16th, 2025 — Algeria has reaffirmed its continental leadership in the renewable energy sector as Noureddine Yassaâ, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energies, takes part in the high-profile African Energy Forum (AEF) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Yassaâ, who arrived in Cape Town accompanied by a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies and executives from Sonatrach, will engage in a series of strategic roundtables and high-level debates running until June 20. His participation underscores Algeria’s firm commitment to shaping the continent’s future energy landscape.

The African Energy Forum, one of the most prestigious platforms dedicated to the energy sector in Africa, brings together top-level leaders, policy-makers, industrial giants, energy experts, and international financial institutions. The forum provides a critical arena for addressing the continent’s energy challenges, exploring opportunities for sustainable project development, and reinforcing energy security across Africa.

During the event, Yassaâ will contribute to pivotal discussions centered on the acceleration of the energy transition and the scaling up of renewable energy initiatives across the continent. He is expected to share Algeria’s strategic vision for a low-carbon future and highlight the country’s tangible progress in solar, wind, and green hydrogen technologies.

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, this participation is part of Algeria’s broader strategy to strengthen South-South cooperation by fostering deeper energy partnerships with African nations. “Algeria is resolutely committed to leveraging its abundant natural resources in support of sustainable energy development and integration within the African energy ecosystem,” the statement read.

The ministry also emphasized Algeria’s ambition to be a “pillar of energy security on the continent” and a “reliable strategic partner” in the renewable sector, citing recent progress in the deployment of photovoltaic energy infrastructure and ongoing institutional reforms to attract green investment.
