Algeria, the Republic of Korea Poised to Elevate Military Cooperation to New Strategic Heights

Algiers – October 2025 – In a major step toward deepening bilateral defense ties, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), was received on Thursday by Ahn Gyu-back, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Korea. The meeting, held on the fifth and final day of General Chanegriha’s official visit to Seoul, marked a pivotal moment in advancing military cooperation between Algeria and South Korea to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defence (MDN), the discussions brought together senior military officials from both countries and focused on assessing the current state of bilateral defense cooperation, while exploring concrete avenues for its expansion across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
During the meeting, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, emphasizing Algeria’s determination to build upon its strong and enduring friendship with the Republic of Korea. He expressed his “sincere gratitude” for the invitation extended to participate in the ADEX-2025 International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition, describing the visit as “a new milestone in the consolidation of cooperative relations serving the common interests of the two nations.”
General Chanegriha reaffirmed Algeria’s firm will to raise bilateral military cooperation to the highest possible level, noting that the solid and longstanding ties between the two countries have “steadily evolved since the establishment of diplomatic relations,” and that recent years have witnessed “a renewed momentum, reflected in reciprocal high-level visits and the signing of several agreements across diverse fields.”
For his part, Minister Ahn Gyu-back underscored his country’s readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the domain of defense industries and technology transfer. He expressed his hope that the Algerian delegation would “benefit from the activities of the exhibition and gain insight into the advanced technological and technical capabilities of Korean enterprises in this field.”
The meeting concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts and the signing of the Guest Book of the Korean Ministry of Defence, followed by an official commemorative photograph, sealing a visit that lays the foundation for deeper, more structured, and mutually beneficial defense collaboration between Algeria and the Republic of Korea — two nations united by a shared vision of innovation, security, and strategic partnership.
