Algeria Thwarts Terrorism and Organized Crime in First Half of 2025: 35 Terrorists Neutralized, 17 Tons of Narcotics Seized

ANP Reports Sweeping Operations Against Terror Cells, Drug Trafficking, and Cross-Border Smuggling Amid National Security Reinforcement

Algiers, Algeria | July 2nd, 2025 —  In a resolute show of force, the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) reported the neutralization of 35 terrorists and the arrest of 227 individuals providing support to terrorist groups during the first half of 2025. This is part of a broader campaign to safeguard national sovereignty and dismantle threats to Algeria’s stability.

According to the operational report released on Wednesday, ANP units also recovered an arsenal of 333 firearms alongside large quantities of ammunition, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the terrorist threat still lingering in some regions of the country.

In tandem with counterterrorism efforts, Algeria has significantly intensified its crackdown on organized crime. The ANP thwarted multiple drug trafficking networks operating along its western borders, notably foiling attempts to smuggle 17.12 tonnes of processed cannabis (kif) from Morocco. A total of 1,186 drug traffickers were arrested in this context. Additional seizures included 663 kilograms of cocaine and over 24 million psychotropic pills, marking a major blow to regional narcotics syndicates.

The ANP’s operations also extended to the fight against smuggling and illegal resource exploitation. Nationwide raids resulted in the arrest of 7,770 individuals and the confiscation of:

• 921 vehicles

• 3,281 jackhammers

• 5,523 power generators

• 172 metal detectors

• Over 1.4 million liters of fuel

• 760 tons of tobacco

• Nearly 76 tons (758.55 quintals) of subsidized foodstuffs earmarked for illegal trade and speculation.

Moreover, as part of enhanced border security and migration control, combined ANP detachments apprehended 12,825 illegal migrants of various nationalities throughout Algerian territory.

This extensive mid-year operational record reflects Algeria’s unwavering commitment to national defense, law enforcement, and regional stability. The ANP continues to operate with precision and resolve against multifaceted threats ranging from terrorism to transnational organized crime.
