Algeria, UNCTAD Strengthen Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Development and Trade Facilitation

Algiers – October 2025 – On the sidelines of the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, held a bilateral meeting with Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, to discuss the deepening of cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations trade body.
The meeting, which took place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, was attended by Rachid Belahdane, Algeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and to international organizations in Switzerland. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in key areas such as sustainable development, trade facilitation, and capacity building in export promotion and economic diversification — all vital components of Algeria’s ongoing reform agenda.
Minister Rezig reaffirmed Algeria’s firm commitment, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthen cooperation with international development organizations, particularly UNCTAD, whose role is crucial in supporting equitable growth and global trade inclusiveness. He highlighted that enhanced cooperation with UNCTAD would enable Algeria to adapt to global economic transformations, improve competitiveness, and reinforce its integration within international value chains.
Both parties agreed to intensify dialogue and coordination with a view to strengthening technical cooperation and exchange of expertise. This partnership aims to bolster Algeria’s economic development, foster regional integration within Africa and the Arab world, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth aligned with global development objectives.
