Algeria, UNICEF Strengthen Strategic Health Cooperation

Algiers – November 2025 – On the sidelines of the African Ministerial Conference dedicated to local pharmaceutical production, Algeria reaffirmed its growing role as a regional health leader through high-level discussions held in Algiers between Minister of Health Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène and the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The meeting focused on concrete mechanisms to bolster bilateral cooperation, particularly in the supply and distribution of vaccines—a sector in which Algeria has demonstrated remarkable operational capacity. According to the UNICEF representative, Algeria’s advanced production capabilities, robust logistics platforms, and strategic geographic position make it an indispensable partner for regional health programmes. He stressed that the “prospects for partnership are vast,” especially given the pressing needs of the wider African and MENA regions.
In parallel, Catarina Johansson, UNICEF’s in-country representative, highlighted Algeria’s “leadership in continental health cooperation,” commending the country’s sustained commitment to regional solidarity and public health resilience. Her remarks echoed the growing international recognition of Algeria’s role in supporting Africa’s pharmaceutical autonomy and strengthening vaccine security.
For his part, Minister Aït Messaoudène reaffirmed Algeria’s full readiness to operationalize joint initiatives with UNICEF. He announced that a “technical meeting will be held in the coming days to define the priorities of cooperation,” marking a new stage in structuring long-term collaborative programmes.
