Algeria Unveils “Domestic Airlines”: A New National Carrier Dedicated to Internal Connectivity

Algiers, Algeria | July 4th, 2025 — Algeria has officially lifted the veil on the name of its new national airline dedicated exclusively to domestic flights: Domestic Airlines. The announcement was made on Thursday during a press conference led by Hamza Benhamouda, CEO of Air Algérie.

The creation of this wholly-owned subsidiary marks a strategic step in restructuring the country’s air transport sector, with a clear objective: improving regional accessibility and responding to persistent flight deficiencies across numerous wilayas, particularly in the South.

The choice of the name Domestic Airlines—in English—was deliberate. According to Benhamouda, it was selected for its simplicity, international intelligibility, and ease of pronunciation. In Arabic, the new carrier will be known as “الخطوط الجوية الداخلية”, or “Internal Airlines.”

Graphically, the new airline retains strong visual ties to its parent company. The logo mirrors that of Air Algérie, though the iconic red has been replaced with a softer green, symbolizing a fresh beginning and reaffirming its deep-rooted national identity. This chromatic shift conveys a message of renewal, unity, and commitment to domestic development.

Speaking recently on the matter, Minister of Transport Saïd Sayoud emphasized that the establishment of this new entity is part of a broader vision to correct long-standing imbalances in the domestic air network. “The South, in particular, has suffered from poor availability and inefficiencies in the organization of internal flights. Domestic Airlines will rectify that,” he stated.
