Algeria Urges Stronger UN–Arab League Partnership to Safeguard Peace and Regional Security

Algiers – September 2025 – At the United Nations headquarters in New York, Algeria delivered a resounding call for the consolidation of cooperation between the Security Council and the League of Arab States. Addressing an interactive dialogue session dedicated to UN–regional organization cooperation under Chapter VIII of the UN Charter, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, underscored the urgency of building a stronger, structured partnership in the service of international peace and security.
Minister Attaf emphasized that collaboration with regional organizations has become an imperative, not a choice, in light of escalating crises in the Middle East and North Africa. He stressed that such partnerships not only enhance the effectiveness of UN initiatives but also reinforce the global collective security framework.
Drawing attention to the grave challenges in the Middle East, Attaf warned of the systematic aggression aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, as well as the repeated assaults on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring states. He argued that only through closer coordination between the UN and the Arab League can the international community hope to confront such existential threats to peace and stability.
In the same context, the Algerian top diplomat highlighted the pressing need for unified international and Arab efforts to accelerate peaceful resolutions to protracted crises afflicting several Arab countries, including Sudan, Libya, and Somalia. His appeal reflected Algeria’s steadfast foreign policy doctrine, which champions multilateralism, regional solidarity, and the primacy of political dialogue as the pathways to lasting peace.
