Algeria, Venezuela Bolster Strategic Alliance Ahead of 5th Joint Commission Session in Algiers

High-Level Talks Set to Deepen South-South Cooperation, Economic Integration, and Political Convergence Between Two Revolutionary Partners

Algiers, Algeria | July 2nd, 2025 — Algiers is set to host the 5th session of the Algerian-Venezuelan Joint Governmental Commission on Economic, Commercial, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation this Thursday, a major diplomatic event poised to usher in a new phase of strategic bilateral relations between the two nations.

In preparation for the high-level session, a technical meeting between expert delegations from both countries took place on Wednesday in Algiers. The session was co-chaired by Ahmed Hachemi, Director General for the Americas at Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Yuri Pimentel, Venezuela’s Deputy Minister for Africa at the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Relations.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared determination to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, especially in the fields of trade, investment, and scientific cooperation. Hachemi underscored that political coordination between Algeria and Venezuela has reached “its highest level in recent years,” thanks to a strong alignment of views on critical regional and international issues, including peace, decolonization, food security, and the defense of national sovereignty.

The Algerian diplomat emphasized the urgency of establishing a bilateral Business Council to stimulate trade and investment, remove bureaucratic obstacles, and unlock untapped opportunities across multiple sectors. He hailed Algerian-Venezuelan ties as a “model for South-South cooperation,” highlighting the frequent high-level exchanges and coordinated stances in international forums as testimony to this partnership’s strength.

For his part, Deputy Minister Yuri Pimentel lauded the historical depth of the Algeria-Venezuela alliance, grounded in solidarity, anti-imperialism, and mutual respect. He praised the leadership of Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Nicolás Maduro for reinforcing this trajectory and for steering bilateral relations toward a strategic and comprehensive direction. He also highlighted the shared commitment to just causes, particularly the unwavering support both nations extend to the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.

Pimentel further stressed Algeria’s growing regional influence, describing it as a major political, economic, and military force in North Africa and one of the continent’s leading economies. He affirmed that the composition and level of the Venezuelan delegation reflect Caracas’ deep commitment to reinforcing ties with Algiers.

The 5th Joint Commission session is expected to culminate in the signing of multiple cooperation agreements, expanding the legal framework governing relations and laying the groundwork for robust collaboration in various strategic sectors.
