Algeria Welcomes Indo-Pakistani Ceasefire Agreement: Attaf Commends Diplomatic Breakthrough

During a phone call with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf reaffirms Algeria’s support for peaceful dialogue and urges a lasting solution for regional stability in South Asia

Algiers, Algeria | May 11th, 2025 — Algeria has expressed strong support for the recent ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and India, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to peace, diplomacy, and regional stability. This came during a phone conversation on Sunday between Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, and his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

In the course of their exchange, the Pakistani Foreign Minister briefed Mr. Attaf on the latest developments in the Indian subcontinent, particularly regarding the agreement that led to a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. He emphasized the significance of this agreement in defusing tensions and avoiding any further escalation that could imperil the security and stability of both nations and the broader region.

Minister Attaf welcomed the breakthrough with a sense of satisfaction, lauding the diplomatic and mediating efforts that paved the way for the ceasefire. He praised the use of dialogue and negotiation over the rhetoric of confrontation, stressing the importance of diplomatic channels as the cornerstone of conflict resolution.

Attaf went further, voicing Algeria’s aspiration to see this positive step solidified in the coming days. He expressed hope that this truce would open new paths toward establishing a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace between the two countries, aligned with the aspirations of their peoples and the imperative of strengthening peace and security across South Asia.
