ALGIERS- The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reiterated Algeria’s full support and solidarity with Tunisia.
Speaking in a podcast published by the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera, President tebboune said that “Algeria will not abandon Tunisia and the Tunisian people”, adding: “we hope that the Tunisian people will preserve their country…. we will not allow the collapse of the Tunisian state”.
Recently, President Tebboune made it known that Tunisia was the target of a plot and that Algeria would always stands by its side. A plot whose origin dates back to the visit made by the Saharawi President, Brahim Ghali, to Tunisia, in August 2022, to take part in the work of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad 8).
Moreover, President Tebboune clarified that “Algeria supports President Kaïs Saïed who is a president elected by the Tunisians and not a president imposed or installed following a coup”.
During a lively press conference in December 2021 on the sidelines of his state visit to Tunisia, President Tebboune promised to bring his country’s help to Tunisia in these difficult conditions. “We will never leave Tunisia alone, no matter what,” he said.
Addressing the political tensions raging in Tunisia, President Tebboune told Al Jazeera that “Algeria refuses to exert any pressure on Tunisia and to interfere in its internal affairs”. “These political tensions are an internal affair and part of the democratic process,” he maintained.
