Algeria, Zimbabwe Bolster Military and Security Cooperation

Algiers – November 2025 – Algeria and Zimbabwe have taken a decisive step toward strengthening their longstanding partnership in defense and security. On Wednesday, General of the Army Corps Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), received the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, as stated in an official communiqué from the Ministry of National Defense.
In his address, General Chanegriha emphasized that the visit reflected the deep historical ties binding the two nations, as well as the shared determination of their highest authorities to consolidate bilateral cooperation—particularly in the strategic areas of defense, security, and military coordination. He reaffirmed that this engagement is part of a broader vision aimed at enhancing solidarity among African states and promoting collective stability across the continent.
Recalling the roots of this partnership, General Chanegriha highlighted that the relations between Algeria and Zimbabwe date back to the liberation struggles, when both peoples stood united in their fight for freedom, dignity, and national sovereignty. “Since achieving independence, our two nations have continuously supported the liberation of Africa from colonialism and apartheid,” he stated, underscoring that the bilateral relationship rests upon “mutual respect, solidarity, and constructive cooperation,” reinforced by “constant coordination and converging visions on major continental issues.”
The Chief of Staff further noted that this collaboration was significantly strengthened following the official visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Algeria in July 2025. That visit, he said, served as a cornerstone for revitalizing joint cooperation frameworks and reaffirming a shared commitment to an Africa that is independent, stable, and self-reliant.
“This meeting,” Chanegriha explained, “enabled the exchange of views on enhancing strategic partnership and improving coordination on African and international matters. It culminated in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors.”
