Algiers, Algeria– Wednesday, July 16, 2025 | In a new chapter of Pan-African diplomatic engagement, Algeria and Zimbabwe officially launched the 4th session of their Joint Cooperation Commission on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The high-level meeting, co-chaired by Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State for African Affairs, and Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, marks a strategic recalibration of bilateral ties rooted in mutual respect, development diplomacy, and economic sovereignty.

This session follows a series of high-level exchanges and precedes the anticipated official visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Algeria, reflecting the political will of both nations to fortify South-South cooperation as a pillar of Africa’s collective renaissance.

The Joint Commission serves as an institutional platform to evaluate past progress and chart future collaborations across key sectors. Central to the deliberations are energy cooperation, agricultural innovation, trade expansion, mining partnerships, academic exchange, judicial collaboration, and the development of sustainable tourism. These areas reflect both countries’ strategic priorities and their commitment to unlocking synergies across natural resources, industrial potential, and human capital.

Crucially, the talks emphasized the operationalization of projects that are not only mutually beneficial but also continentally relevant, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Both sides expressed determination to align their economic agendas with the integration objectives of the AfCFTA, viewing it as a transformational lever to diversify markets, harmonize regulations, and enhance the mobility of goods, services, and investments across the continent.

The Zimbabwean delegation reiterated its appreciation for Algeria’s historical support for African liberation movements and emphasized its eagerness to translate political solidarity into economic partnership. In turn, Algeria reaffirmed its readiness to share its developmental expertise, particularly in renewable energy, vocational training, and public infrastructure, areas in which it has established robust domestic capabilities.
