Algeria-Zimbabwe Parliamentary Friendship Group Advances Bilateral Cooperation through MoUs

Presiding over the Algerian delegation, Khelifa Benslimane highlighted the “excellent and historic relations” linking the two nations, forged through their shared struggle against colonialism and reinforced over decades of political solidarity. He underscored the strategic vision both countries share, rooted in respect for state sovereignty and the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination, according to a statement from the People’s National Assembly (APN).

Strengthening Regional and International Parliamentary Coordination

Benslimane emphasized the imperative of deepening parliamentary collaboration, advocating for intensified coordination and concertation between legislators of both countries. He further stressed the need to unify positions within regional and international parliamentary organizations, advancing shared interests and fortifying bilateral cooperation.

On the economic front, Benslimane noted that the current volume of trade between Algeria and Zimbabwe does not reflect the depth of their political relations. He reiterated the guiding principles of Algerian foreign policy, particularly the commitment to good neighborliness and support for the right of peoples to self-determination.

Educational and Economic Ties

Shamu welcomed the meeting as a platform to explore areas of bilateral cooperation, including the drafting of memorandums of understanding and the reinforcement of economic ties. He also commended Algeria’s hosting of Zimbabwean students in its universities under scholarship programs and acknowledged Algerian support during Zimbabwe’s participation in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers.

Members of the Zimbabwe-Algeria Friendship Group reciprocated the sentiment, praising the high level of bilateral relations and Algeria’s steadfast support during the nations’ shared historical struggle. They called for further development of cooperation in business, trade, industry, and infrastructure, alongside strengthened coordination in continental economic events, thereby consolidating a robust framework for mutual advancement.
