Algiers, Algeria | June 14th, 2025 — In a decisive operation demonstrating Algeria’s uncompromising stance against terrorism and transnational organized crime, combined detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) apprehended three armed individuals of foreign nationality in the northeastern sector of In Amenas, under the jurisdiction of the 4th Military Region.

The operation, which took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, was the result of meticulous reconnaissance and a high-alert search-and-sweep mission targeting terrorist elements operating near Algeria’s sensitive southeastern borders.

According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), the operation led to the seizure of a formidable cache of weapons and illicit substances, including:

• A FMPK automatic machine gun,

• A precision sniper rifle,

• A substantial quantity of live ammunition,

• A Toyota Station Wagon vehicle,

• A Thuraya satellite phone,

• A wireless radio device,

• And two mobile phones used for coordination.

In an alarming revelation, the army also discovered 2,381,445 psychotropic tablets of the drug Pregabalin, a substance widely misused for its potent psychoactive effects. These tablets were likely destined for distribution through organized trafficking networks operating across the Sahel and North Africa.

The MDN emphasized that this qualitative military success is not an isolated incident, but part of a larger, sustained campaign aimed at uprooting terrorism from Algerian soil and dismantling the logistical and supply lines of international criminal cartels exploiting the region’s porous frontiers.
