Algerian Army Eliminates Two Terrorists in Khenchela: Ongoing Operation Yields Significant Arms Seizure

People’s National Army neutralizes armed threats in Chechar, recovers Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition in a high-impact counterterrorism sweep

Algiers, Algeria | May 17th, 2025 — In a decisive blow to terrorism, units of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) have successfully neutralized two terrorists in the mountainous region of Khenchela, as part of a sweeping counterterrorism operation that remains ongoing.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of National Defence (MDN), the operation was carried out on May 15 and 16, 2025, in the area of Oued Gharghar, located in the commune of Chechar within the 5th Military Region. The operation forms part of Algeria’s relentless efforts to eliminate the remnants of terrorist cells still lurking in remote regions.

The military sweep resulted not only in the neutralization of two armed terrorists but also led to the seizure of four Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, a notable quantity of ammunition, and other logistical materials used by terrorist elements. The statement highlighted that the operation is still underway, suggesting the possibility of further breakthroughs.

“These high-value results once again underscore the effectiveness of the strategy adopted by the High Command of the People’s National Army to eradicate the remaining criminal elements and to reinforce security and stability across the entire national territory,” the MDN emphasized.
