Algiers – November 2025 – In a comprehensive operational update released on Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) detailed the outcomes of counterterrorism and anti-crime operations conducted by the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) across the national territory between November 5 and 11. The report underscores the continued vigilance and effectiveness of Algeria’s defense apparatus in safeguarding national security and confronting multifaceted threats, from terrorism to organized crime.
As part of counterterrorism efforts, a significant development was recorded in the southern region. A terrorist identified as T. Sid Ahmed, known by the alias “Mohamed,” voluntarily surrendered to military authorities in In Guezzam, located within the 6th Military Region. According to the communiqué, the individual was in possession of a Simonov-type semi-automatic rifle, ammunition, and various other items. This surrender represents another success for the ANP’s sustained counterterrorism strategy, which continues to erode the remnants of terrorist networks in the Sahel and southern border zones.
Simultaneously, security forces apprehended eight other individuals suspected of providing logistical and material support to terrorist groups during separate, intelligence-driven operations across the country. These coordinated interventions highlight the ANP’s proactive and multidimensional approach to dismantling the support infrastructure of terrorism and maintaining the integrity of national borders.
Major Blow to Drug Trafficking Networks
In its ongoing campaign against organized crime, the ANP achieved substantial results in disrupting narcotics trafficking networks operating along Algeria’s western and southern frontiers. The report notes the arrest of 61 drug traffickers and the interception of 3 quintals and 44 kilograms of processed cannabis attempting to be smuggled in from Morocco.
Moreover, the forces seized 2 kilograms of cocaine and an astonishing 412,013 psychotropic tablets, dealing a severe blow to transnational criminal networks seeking to infiltrate Algerian territory with illicit substances. The Ministry emphasized that these seizures reflect the unrelenting commitment of security forces to counter drug proliferation and dismantle the financial networks that often intersect with terrorism and organized crime.
The MDN communiqué reaffirmed that these ongoing operations form part of a broader national effort aimed at ensuring stability, safeguarding citizens, and defending Algeria’s sovereignty against all forms of threats—be they internal or external.
