Algerian Army Intensifies Nationwide Security Operations: Major Anti-Terror, Drug Seizures

๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ โ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ป๐พ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐๐๐๐ โ Between February 4 and 10, 2026, units and detachments of the Algerian Peopleโs National Army (ANP) executed a series of large-scale operations across the country, reaffirming their unwavering professionalism, vigilance, and readiness to safeguard national security and stability, according to an official report released by the ANP.
On the counterterrorism front, the operations resulted in the arrest of ten individuals providing logistical and operational support to terrorist groups. Conducted across multiple regions, these arrests form part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling the networks that sustain terrorist organizations, effectively crippling their ability to operate.
Simultaneously, the ANP intensified its fight against organized crime, particularly drug trafficking. In close coordination with national security services, combined detachments intercepted 26 narcotics traffickers across Algeriaโs military regions, preventing the illicit introduction of 10 quintals and 98 kilograms of processed cannabis from Morocco. In addition, authorities seized 2,284,797 psychotropic tablets, underscoring the magnitude of drug trafficking operations and the armyโs unwavering determination to neutralize these criminal circuits.
In the southern regions, including Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, In Guezzam, and Djanet, operations targeting illegal gold mining led to the arrest of 259 individuals. Security forces confiscated 32 vehicles, 188 generators, 111 jackhammers, along with raw gold and stone mixtures, highlighting heightened vigilance against anarchic exploitation of national resources.
Additional operations resulted in the apprehension of eleven individuals and the recovery of a FMPK submachine gun, two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, a pistol, nine hunting rifles, and 24,500 liters of fuel intended for smuggling. Moreover, the army continued efforts against illegal immigration, detaining 227 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities nationwide.
Through these decisive actions, the ANP reasserts its relentless commitment to protecting Algeriaโs borders, maintaining internal security, and confronting all threats with firmness, strategic precision, and professional excellence, demonstrating the armyโs central role as a pillar of national stability.
