Algerian Army Reports Major Security Operations: Terrorist Surrenders, 14 Arrested for Terror Links, and Massive Drug Seizures

Algiers, Algeria | June 25th, 2025 — The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has reported a week of intensive security operations across the country, resulting in the surrender of a terrorist, the arrest of 14 terrorist accomplices, the dismantling of major drug trafficking networks, and the interception of illegal migration attempts. These operations, conducted between June 18 and 24, reflect the ANP’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and fighting organized crime in all its forms.

In a key counterterrorism development, a terrorist identified as Lansari Ahmed, alias Elhoubla, surrendered to military authorities in the southern province of Adrar, part of the 3rd Military Region. He handed over a Dochka-type automatic machine gun, a Kalashnikov submachine gun, a significant amount of ammunition, and other military gear. Simultaneously, ANP detachments apprehended 14 individuals suspected of supporting terrorist groups during coordinated security operations nationwide.

In the fight against organized crime, particularly narcotrafficking, combined ANP units—working in concert with national security services—arrested 36 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 868 kilograms (over 8 quintals) of processed cannabis originating from Morocco. Authorities also seized 50 kilograms of cocaine and an astonishing 1,176,576 psychotropic tablets, further curbing the flow of dangerous substances within Algeria.

In the southern border regions of Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and In Salah, ANP units arrested 160 individuals involved in illegal gold mining and smuggling operations. Confiscated items included 51 vehicles, 73 electric generators, 71 jackhammers, explosives, detonators, raw gold mixtures, and various tools used in illicit mining.

Additional security sweeps led to the arrest of 16 more individuals, along with the seizure of two submachine guns, four automatic pistols, nine hunting rifles, and 30,754 liters of fuel, intended for contraband. Authorities also confiscated nine quintals of tobacco and 82 tons of foodstuffs meant for smuggling and speculative trade.

In maritime security efforts, the Algerian Coast Guard thwarted several attempts at illegal migration, rescuing 469 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Meanwhile, 287 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were detained across multiple regions in the country.

These operations underscore the ANP’s relentless efforts in defending Algeria’s territorial integrity, combating transnational threats, and ensuring public safety. The scale and success of this week’s operations serve as a powerful testament to the professionalism and vigilance of Algeria’s defense and security institutions.
