The CASIC’s Establishment Sets a Strong Foundation for Advanced Research and Training in Media and Communication
Algiers, Algeria | May 5th, 2025 — On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Algerian Center for Media and Communication Sciences (CASIC) was officially launched at the Dar Al-Sahafa Taheer Jaout in Algiers. The event, presided over by Dr. Berkane Bouderbala, marked the establishment of a pioneering academic and professional institution aimed at advancing research and development in the fields of media and communication. The launch was attended by an assembly of prominent academics, researchers, media professionals, and journalists, all gathered to discuss the center’s mission and its essential role in addressing contemporary media challenges.
Dr. Berkane Bouderbala, the founder and director of CASIC, emphasized that the center is designed to be a key resource for media research and knowledge creation on both the national and regional levels. He shared his vision for CASIC as a unique institution that merges academic research with practical media expertise, a vision born from his extensive experience as both an academic and a media professional.
Dr. Bouderbala’s leadership combines both academic rigor and hands-on media experience, as he has been a journalist and a publishing manager for various national weeklies and dailies since 1998. His dual expertise positions him uniquely to steer CASIC towards its goal of becoming a leading institution in media research and training, both within Algeria and internationally.
CASIC is an independent academic institution that brings together university researchers and experienced media professionals to enhance scientific research and advanced studies in the areas of media and communication. It aims to contribute to the development of Algeria’s media landscape by producing knowledge and offering consultancy services to decision-makers and institutions. The center will also conduct opinion polls and studies on media-related issues, helping to guide policy decisions and improve public discourse.
The center’s key objectives are:
– Promoting theoretical and applied research in media and communication, including traditional and new media.
-Organizing workshops, training programs, and scientific conferences to foster knowledge exchange.
-Investigating the effects of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, on media systems and communication practices.
-Collaborating with universities and research centers both within Algeria and internationally to strengthen academic partnerships.
-Supporting the professional development of journalists through specialized training in areas such as investigative journalism, media production, and digital communication techniques.
One of the center’s significant initiatives will be the launch of an academic journal focused on media research, providing a platform for scholars to present their work to the global academic community. Furthermore, CASIC will conduct public opinion surveys and offer specialized consultancy in areas such as crisis communication and institutional media management.
Looking ahead, the center plans to establish partnerships with international media and academic institutions, especially within the Maghreb, African, and Arab regions. It will organize international seminars and workshops, fostering collaboration between researchers and media professionals across borders.
