ALGIERS- The Algerian cosmetics market remains robust and unaffected by disruptions or shortages, according to Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA). Speaking at the opening of the 2nd edition of the International Cosmetics Exhibition at the Palace of Expositions in Algiers, Moula emphasized the sufficiency of locally-produced cosmetics to meet domestic demand.

“In the national market, the supply from local production is adequate to cover local needs, and prices have not increased significantly,” Moula stated. He pointed out that increased competition among approximately 130 domestic cosmetic companies has led to more accessible prices for consumers, citing examples such as shampoos priced as low as 150 Algerian dinars, down from 600 or 700 dinars previously.

As the head of Venus Laboratories, one of the sector’s leading companies, Moula highlighted the significant growth of the domestic cosmetics industry in recent years. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to further develop local production and increase integration of locally-sourced materials. Moula suggested that certain raw materials currently imported, including extracts, aromas, and ethyl alcohol used in perfume and deodorant manufacturing, could be produced locally with the cooperation of industry stakeholders.

Moula also underscored the potential for Algerian operators to not only produce but also export raw materials in the future. He stressed the importance of maintaining quality standards to reassure consumers that locally-produced goods meet required norms amid fierce competition from international leaders in the cosmetics industry.

The International Cosmetics Exhibition, which opened its doors in Algiers, features 130 exhibitors from Algeria and abroad, including countries such as China, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Tunisia, and India. The event serves as a platform for showcasing the latest trends and innovations in the cosmetics industry and fostering collaboration between domestic and international stakeholders.
