Algiers, Algeria– Monday, July 14, 2025 | In a regulatory move aiming to tighten customs oversight and counter under-invoicing, Algerian Customs authorities have issued a revised Argus list for 2025, setting new reference prices for imported vehicles. This update introduces a more nuanced and region-specific valuation framework, marking a significant shift in how imported vehicles are appraised for customs declarations.

The revised reference prices, known as Free on Board (FOB) values, now account for three core criteria: vehicle origin, engine type, and fuel category. In a first for Algerian customs, a sharp distinction has been drawn between vehicles imported from Europe and those shipped from Asia or other regions, even when referring to identical models and configurations. The aim is to reduce fraudulent practices in invoicing and reinforce fiscal transparency.

According to data obtained and reported by Echourouk Online, the new Argus values set starting points as low as $9,000 for certain compact Asian models, while high-end European hybrids can fetch up to €75,000, highlighting the dramatic disparities based on origin and engineering sophistication.

Take Volkswagen as a case study:

• The T-Roc (1000 cm³, petrol) manufactured in Europe is listed at €22,825, while its non-European counterpart, typically assembled in China, is valued at just $15,000.

• The 1500 cm³ diesel variant from Europe is set at €26,560, compared to $18,800 for the imported model from other regions.

Other significant entries include:

• The Volkswagen Golf (1400 cm³, petrol): €23,240 for the European version and $17,200 for others.

• The Tiguan shows similar variation: €31,540 for a 1500 cm³ petrol European model versus $26,000 for a 2000 cm³ petrol from a non-European source.

Renault models also illustrate the pricing gradient:

• Clio 4 (1200 cm³, petrol) is priced at €14,027,

• Duster (1600 cm³, petrol) at €13,695,

• Mégane (1300 cm³, petrol) at €25,979,

• Mégane (1600 cm³, diesel) at €27,559.

Kia continues to hold a price advantage in the compact and mid-size categories:

• KX1 (1200 cm³, petrol) at $9,000,

• Seltos (1500 cm³, diesel) at $11,000,

• The Sportage (1600 cm³, diesel) European version is priced at €25,730, versus $17,000 for the non-European one.

For the luxury segment, Mercedes-Benz prices soar:

• GLC 300 (2000 cm³, diesel) from Europe reaches €59,885,

• Hybrid and petrol versions exceed €66,000,

• GLE 300 Hybrid climbs to €74,659.

Hyundai vehicles follow a similar trend:

• Tucson (1600 cm³, diesel) at €24,900 for the European model, compared to $24,150 for its hybrid non-European equivalent.

• Creta (1500 cm³, petrol) is listed at $13,200,

• Elantra at $14,000,

• The compact i10 (1000 cm³, petrol) European version sits at €13,000.

As for Skoda:

• Fabia (1000 cm³, petrol) is marked at €14,110,

• Kodiaq (2000 cm³, diesel) at €37,000,

• Kamiq shows a range between $12,500 and €25,430, depending on engine size and origin.
