Algiers – September 2025 – The intense diplomatic activity of Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, during his recent mission to New York, has reaffirmed the dynamic momentum and renewed vigor of Algerian diplomacy under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
President Tebboune had recently underlined, in an interview with national media, his satisfaction with the accomplishments achieved by Algerian diplomacy, notably within the United Nations Security Council. “Algerian diplomacy is on the right track,” the Head of State affirmed, stressing that its achievements at the Security Council “honor Algeria and elevate the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” Tebboune further attributed this renewed dynamism to the arrival of Ahmed Attaf, praising his mastery of dossiers and his deep knowledge of international interlocutors. He emphasized that Algeria’s foreign policy priorities are carefully defined, allowing the country to reclaim its influence and prestige on the international stage.
This renewed vitality was evident in Attaf’s packed agenda in New York. From high-level talks with the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy on Western Sahara to bilateral meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, and counterparts from Africa, the Americas, and the Arab world, Attaf’s schedule was nothing short of exhaustive. These encounters highlighted Algeria’s stature as a reliable and respected partner, whose voice is increasingly sought in regional and global forums.
The minister’s mission in New York also served to prepare the upcoming state visit of President Tebboune to Germany. According to a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attaf’s meeting with his German counterpart reviewed the “privileged political dialogue and solid economic partnership” uniting Algeria and Germany. Discussions further explored avenues to elevate bilateral relations to their highest potential, in anticipation of Tebboune’s forthcoming visit. The two officials also exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East and developments across the Sahel-Saharan region.
Parallel to this European dimension, Algerian diplomacy also witnessed renewed momentum with Washington. In a message conveyed through a video published by the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau underscored his country’s determination to “expand and strengthen economic relations with Algeria.” Following his meeting with Attaf in New York, Landau described Algeria as a land of “enormous opportunities,” adding that closer trade relations would pave the way for “greater progress to the benefit of both the Algerian and American peoples.”
Expressing his eagerness to visit Algeria, Landau affirmed his “deep attachment to the prospect of bringing our two nations closer, so that our peoples may share a more prosperous future together.” His remarks further underscored the momentum generated by Attaf’s mission, placing Algeria at the heart of a growing network of strategic partnerships.
Taken together, these diplomatic milestones illustrate how Algeria, under Tebboune’s leadership, has reasserted its presence on the international stage—bridging continents, shaping dialogues, and defending its principles while forging pathways to a future defined by cooperation, respect, and prosperity.
