Algerian FM Attaf Participates in High-Level Week of UN General Assembly

Algiers, Algeria | September 21st, 2024 — On behalf of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, has arrived in New York to participate in the High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a statement from the ministry.

Minister Attaf will represent President Tebboune at the “Summit of the Future,” scheduled for September 22-23, and the General Debate of the Assembly from September 24-30, centered around the theme, “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”.

As a member of the UN Security Council, Algeria will be actively engaged in several high-level meetings taking place alongside the General Assembly. Minister Attaf is expected to participate in key discussions, including a debate requested by the Algerian delegation on the Palestinian cause. Additionally, he will attend a meeting convened by Slovenia, the current presidency of the Security Council, focusing on enhancing multilateralism in the pursuit of global peace and security.

On the sidelines of the High-Level Week, Attaf will also attend meetings of geopolitical groups to which Algeria belongs, such as the Arab League, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the G77+China.

Furthermore, the Foreign Minister will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from brotherly and friendly nations, as well as with Algeria’s international partners, the statement concluded.
