Algiers, Algeria | May 24th, 2025 — Fourteen Algerian students achieved a groundbreaking feat in the 2024–2025 Huawei Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Global Competition, held from May 20 to 24 in Shenzhen, China, by securing four prestigious international awards, distinguishing themselves among over 210,000 competitors from more than 2,000 universities representing over 100 countries and regions.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Huawei Algeria, this outstanding result reflects “the exceptional caliber of Algerian students in the field of ICT and their growing presence in the global technological arena.”

The Algerian teams claimed top honors in four categories:

  • Grand Prize in the Cloud Category:

A remarkable debut for Algeria in this category, thanks to a FinTech and insurance project developed by Sofiane Chelghoum, Ranim Mehatla, Walid Guessoum, Maroua Bentazi, and Ilham Aroudj.

In recognition of academic mentorship, Abderraouf Abla, a professor from the University of Boumerdès, received the Best Coach Award, honoring his dedication and exceptional contribution to student training and support.

This international competition also witnessed the presence of a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Professor Ahmed Mir, adviser to the Minister. In his official address, Professor Mir expressed profound pride in the students’ success and reaffirmed the ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting national talents in international forums.

In a congratulatory message on his official social media accounts, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune hailed the historic achievement:

“With pride, I congratulate our students who achieved unprecedented results among 114 countries at the global final of the Huawei ICT Competition in Shenzhen, China. I also extend my congratulations to our national schools and universities from Sétif, Béjaïa, Sidi Bel Abbès, Algiers, and Oran for reaching levels of excellence recognized globally. Thank you all.”
