Algiers, Algeria | In a demonstration of solidarity, the National Organization of Algerian Journalists (NOAJ) organized a sit-in on Monday at the Tahar Djaout Press House in Algiers to honor Palestinian journalists recently assassinated by the Zionist entity. The action sent a resounding message of defiance against those who seek to silence truth and suppress freedom of the press.

Deliberate targeting of journalists as part of a broader strategy

Addressing the gathering, NOAJ President Slimane Abdouche denounced the meticulously orchestrated campaign targeting Palestinian journalists and the international press reporting on the atrocities in Gaza. “This is no ordinary gathering,” Abdouche asserted. “It is a demonstration of respect, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to our colleagues who wage the battle of the word against the brutal machinery of occupation. The Palestinian journalist is not merely a conveyor of news; he is a frontline resistor armed with pen and camera, confronting bombs with bare hands and defying sniper fire in pursuit of truth.”

The sit-in was held in response to a recent, heinous act of aggression in Gaza, where six journalists — termed “fighters of information” — were deliberately killed by the Zionist entity. “The list of martyrs of truth continues to grow,” Abdouche emphasized. “Since the beginning of this ongoing genocide, 238 journalists have been slain, a shocking testament to the systematic targeting of media personnel in Palestine and beyond.”

He detailed the grim reality: bombardment of media institutions, destruction of broadcasting facilities, relentless pursuit of correspondents, and the deliberate assassination of cameramen. “These are not isolated incidents,” Abdouche declared. “This is a calculated policy aimed at erasing truth, manipulating global opinion, and committing crimes against humanity under the cover of impunity.”

Algeria’s historic and unwavering stance

In his address, Abdouche reaffirmed Algeria’s historical commitment to Palestine: “The Palestinian voice will not be silenced. Algeria — its government, people, army, and press — remains steadfast in its promise: Algeria will never betray Palestine. Even if the world abandons it, the homeland of the martyrs will never turn its back.”

The NOAJ president condemned the massacres as flagrant violations of international law and conventions, calling for an urgent international investigation and the prosecution of perpetrators who continue to benefit from total impunity due to the complicit silence of the international community and United Nations bodies.

“The United Nations and the Security Council must act immediately to protect Palestinian journalists and halt the Zionist entity’s crimes,” Abdouche insisted. He further urged journalists worldwide to unite in exposing these atrocities, to apply pressure on the Zionist occupiers, and to ensure unhindered access for international reporters to reveal the brutal reality in Gaza.

A call to the global journalistic community

Concluding the sit-in, Abdouche’s message resonated as both a condemnation and a rallying cry: “Journalists everywhere must stand together to defend truth, to shine light on the crimes being committed, and to support those who risk their lives daily to ensure that the world sees the reality of the occupation. The press is not merely an observer of history — it is a shield for the truth, and those who wield it courageously are heroes in their own right.”

This demonstration, combining solemnity with defiance, reaffirmed Algeria’s unyielding solidarity with Palestinian journalists, echoing the nation’s enduring commitment to justice, human rights, and the inalienable right to truth.
