Algiers – December 2025 – Algeria’s national newspapers have delivered a forceful and unequivocal rebuttal to the political and media campaigns orchestrated by hostile circles in France, following the confirmation by the Tizi Ouzou court of the conviction of French national Christophe Gleizes. The journalist, who entered Algeria under the guise of a tourist, is accused of attempting to smuggle a fabricated separatist narrative in service of the terrorist organization MAK, in what Algerian outlets describe as an act of covert sabotage disguised as journalism.
In a sharply worded editorial titled “When Paris Drowns in Its Own Hypocrisy!”, Le Soir d’Algérie denounced France’s condescending posture and its attempt to lecture Algeria on matters of justice. The paper contrasted Paris’ indignation with its own violation of diplomatic norms last April, when French police stopped an Algerian consular employee based on information extracted from a mobile phone—an unprecedented breach of diplomatic immunity.
The newspaper further recalled France’s punitive approach toward freedom of expression when the French judiciary sentenced Algerian international footballer Youcef Atal to six months suspended prison for a social media post supporting Gaza, at the height of the atrocities committed by the Zionist occupation. For Le Soir d’Algérie, this incident reveals “a justice system reduced to a political weapon, a tool of repression, and a moral façade for a ruling class convinced it still governs the world.”
In an incisive commentary, the paper lamented France’s consistent refusal to respond to international arrest warrants issued by Algeria against individuals implicated in large-scale corruption and embezzlement. “When the criminals are those who plundered Algeria’s wealth, Paris suddenly falls into selective amnesia, blindness, and deafness,” it wrote, describing these warrants as routinely ignored, obstructed, or buried in bureaucratic drawers.
For its part, El Khabar condemned what it described as France’s overt and persistent support for the terrorist movement MAK, which operates freely under the guise of an association registered under the French Law of 1901. The newspaper argued that the Gleizes affair “exposes the calculated malice and political complicity of France, which instrumentalizes a separatist group to undermine Algeria’s stability.”
El Khabar further stressed that the case “has nothing to do with journalism in its professional sense,” asserting that Gleizes “entered Algeria disguised as a tourist to transmit separatist propaganda, acting on behalf of MAK, a terrorist organization supported covertly by segments of the French security apparatus.” It added that when Algerian justice exercises its full sovereignty, Paris reacts with feigned outrage, invoking hollow clichés about freedom of the press—as though political espionage cloaked in journalism were a sacred right.
National newspapers concluded with a powerful rebuke: “Algeria does not take lessons from anyone—certainly not from a French establishment sinking into moral decay.” They argue that Paris’ agitation stems from Algeria’s rise and assertive posture: “France grows angry and unsettled because Algeria is advancing, no longer bowing down. The Algerian people have chosen to look forward—without permission, without guardianship, and without constraints. And it is precisely this that France neither forgives, nor is likely to ever forgive.”
