Algerian Military Magazine “El-Djeich” Launches First English Edition in Line with President Tebboune’s Language Policy

ALGIERS- In a significant stride towards linguistic diversity and aligning with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision for a more prominent role for the English language in Algeria, the renowned military magazine “El-Djeich,” affiliated with the Algerian National Defense Ministry, has unveiled its inaugural English edition. This edition complements the existing Arabic and French versions of the magazine, marking a departure from the traditional emphasis on the French language.

The decision to introduce an English edition is in harmony with President Tebboune’s broader initiative to strengthen the presence of English in Algeria, recognizing its global significance and its role in fostering international relations, trade, and communication. This move underscores the nation’s commitment to linguistic diversity and openness to embracing multiple languages to engage with a broader audience.

“El-Djeich” magazine has long been a staple source of information and insights on defense, security, and national affairs, primarily disseminated through its Arabic and French editions. The addition of an English version aims to cater to a wider international readership, including diplomats, foreign military officials, and English-speaking audiences interested in Algeria’s defense and geopolitical landscape.

The English edition is expected to cover a spectrum of topics, including national security updates, defense strategies, military achievements, and geopolitical analyses. This expansion into English aligns with Algeria’s efforts to enhance its global presence, communicate effectively with the international community, and promote a more inclusive linguistic environment.

On another level, the January 2024 editions (in the three languages) present readers with a renewed visual identity, underscoring the magazine’s dedication to consistently improving its presentation and substance. The revamped aesthetics and the launch of the English edition signal substantial progress within the Directorate of Communication, Information, and Guidance at the Ministry of National Defense. This development aims to provide readers with meaningful information while fostering greater global connectivity.
