ALGIERS-  The Algerian Parliament has formally requested the inclusion of an urgent item on the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, aimed at addressing the ongoing violations in Gaza. This announcement was made by the Council of the Nation in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the released document, the Algerian and Kuwaiti Parliaments, representing the Arab Group, have jointly submitted the request for the inclusion of an urgent item titled “Stopping the War and Human Rights Violations in Gaza” at the 147th Assembly of the IPU, currently taking place in Angola.

The press release further states that this proposal will be presented to the Assembly alongside requests from the Indonesian and Iranian Parliaments, representing the Asian Group, as well as a request from the Parliament of South Africa, representing the African Group.

The primary objective of this parliamentary mobilization is to condemn and put an end to the genocide and criminal aggression being perpetrated by the occupying forces against the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Additionally, the initiative aims to demand the delivery of humanitarian aid and the implementation of internationally mandated resolutions. It also calls upon the international community to go beyond mere humanitarian efforts and actively protect the rights of the affected people.

This urgent request from the Algerian Parliament, supported by other nations, underscores the gravity of the situation in Gaza and the need for immediate action to address the violations and protect the rights of the affected population.
