Algerian Presidency Denounces Fabricated Interview: No French Media Engagement by President Tebboune

Presidency Slams Malicious Disinformation Campaign, Urges Media to Rely on Verified Sources Amid Growing Digital Manipulation

Algiers, Algeria | June 18th, 2025 — The Presidency of the Republic of Algeria issued a forceful denial on Monday evening regarding false claims circulating on social media and echoed by several online platforms, which alleged that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had granted an exclusive interview to French newspapers.

In a sharply worded statement, the Directorate-General of Communication at the Presidency affirmed unequivocally that President Tebboune has not given any interview to any French media outlet, branding the reports as entirely baseless fabrications. According to the communiqué, the supposed interview is the result of a manipulated digital forgery, created using image-editing software such as Photoshop, and deliberately disseminated by hostile online accounts.

The Presidency warned that the dissemination of such false content is part of a broader, malicious campaign designed to mislead both the national and international public opinion, and to sow confusion regarding Algeria’s official positions. The digital forgery, which imitated the style of well-known French publications, represents an unethical exploitation of modern information and communication technologies, the statement emphasized.

“These acts are not only dishonest but deeply immoral,” the Presidency declared, strongly condemning the perpetrators who orchestrated and circulated the counterfeit content. It called such disinformation tactics an affront to professional journalistic standards and a violation of the public’s right to accurate information.

The Directorate-General of Communication further appealed to media professionals both within Algeria and abroad to exercise greater caution, discernment, and ethical responsibility. It urged them to verify any information pertaining to the activities or statements of the Head of State solely through official channels, and to refrain from contributing—willingly or otherwise—to the spread of fake news and foreign-influenced manipulation efforts.
