Speaker of the Council of the Nation Azouz Nasri Condemns Global Inaction and Stresses Algeria’s Diplomatic Commitment to the Palestinian Cause

Algiers, Algeria | June 18th, 2025 — In a display of Algeria’s enduring solidarity with the Palestinian people, Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Azouz Nasri, received Palestinian Ambassador Fayez Abu Aita for a courtesy meeting on Wednesday. The encounter comes at a critical moment, as Zionist aggression continues to escalate in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories, plunging the region further into crisis.

During their exchange, Speaker Nasri reaffirmed Algeria’s absolute and unconditional support for the Palestinian cause, denouncing the deafening silence of the international community and the paralysis of the UN Security Council, which he said has repeatedly failed to uphold its responsibilities in protecting the oppressed.

“Palestine is not just a diplomatic file — it is a sacred cause for Algeria, rooted in our history, identity, and principles,” stated Speaker Nasri. He emphasized that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has made the defense of Palestine a central pillar of Algeria’s foreign policy, tirelessly advocating for Palestinian rights on every international platform.

Nasri lauded the consistent role of Algerian diplomacy in resisting normalization, defending legitimate Palestinian resistance, and rallying support for a just and comprehensive solution grounded in the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital. He further called for a concerted international effort to reconstruct Gaza, urging Arab and African parliaments to intensify their advocacy and actions.

For his part, Ambassador Fayez Abu Aita presented a grim overview of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, marked by relentless bombardments, mass displacement, and the collapse of basic services. He praised Algeria’s principled stance, describing it as “a moral and political shield” for the Palestinian people in a time of unprecedented vulnerability.

Quoting President Mahmoud Abbas, the ambassador declared: “A strong Algeria means a strong Palestine,” underscoring the profound appreciation of the Palestinian leadership for Algeria’s unwavering support across decades of struggle.

This meeting reaffirmed Algeria’s longstanding rejection of Zionist expansionism, and its firm commitment to justice, sovereignty, and the liberation of occupied Palestinian lands.
