Algiers, Algeria | May 16th, 2025 — In a striking revelation, Algeria’s Public Television, citing reliable sources, has disclosed the discovery of a clandestine tunnel extending from Moroccan territory to the Bab El Assa border area in Tlemcen Province. This tunnel is utilized by organized criminal networks to traffic narcotics and toxic substances from Morocco into Algeria.

The tunnel, located at a significant underground depth, has been actively exploited by drug traffickers to smuggle substantial amounts of processed cannabis (commonly known as “kif”), a narcotic often described as a weapon historically used by Moroccan security forces to undermine Algeria’s stability.

This discovery follows closely on the heels of a similar tunnel uncovered in Ceuta, on the Spanish border, which was used by Moroccan-Spanish trafficking networks to facilitate the illegal passage of humans and contraband. In response to these ongoing threats, Algeria has heightened its state of alert along its entire border with Morocco. The border region has increasingly become a hotspot for the influx of “white and black poisons” — referring to drugs — alongside rising infiltration attempts and repeated provocations. These developments reflect the deepening security challenges that Algeria faces due to the conspiratorial actions of the Moroccan regime.

The Algerian authorities continue to reinforce border security measures to safeguard national sovereignty and protect public safety against the escalating threat of narcotics trafficking and cross-border criminal activities.
