ALGIERS- In a groundbreaking achievement, Imadeddine Djerarda, a student from the Faculty of Technology, Department of Electronics, at the University of M’sila, has become the first Algerian student to receive a full mark of 20/20 in his master’s degree. In addition to this remarkable accomplishment, Djerarda has also obtained a patent and a “LabelMark” for his project. The project focuses on developing a system that utilizes artificial intelligence to protect drivers from drowsiness and distraction, aiming to reduce traffic accidents caused by these factors. The significance of this achievement was acknowledged by various academic and transportation authorities during the thesis defense session.

The Innovative Project

Djerarda’s master’s thesis delved into the invention of an advanced system designed to mitigate the risks associated with driver drowsiness and distraction. The project involved the creation of a smart reflective mirror that incorporates artificial intelligence to identify drivers and monitor their movements and behavior while driving. Once the system detects a potentially dangerous driving situation, it promptly alerts the driver, reminding them to resume normal driving or suggesting that they pull over to a safe location.

Significance in Road Safety

The impact of drowsy and distracted driving on road safety cannot be overstated. These factors often lead to severe accidents resulting in significant loss of life and property. By developing a system that can actively detect and address these issues, Djerarda’s project has the potential to save countless lives and prevent extensive damage caused by traffic accidents.

The Role of Professor Youcef Brik

Professor Youcef Brik, who supervised Djerarda’s thesis, emphasized the significance of the project in reducing traffic accidents caused by driver drowsiness and distraction. Through the implementation of artificial intelligence technology, the system developed by Djerarda provides a proactive approach to addressing these issues. Professor Brik expressed confidence that the innovation would make a substantial contribution to road safety in Algeria.

Recognition and Acknowledgment

The defense session for Djerarda’s thesis took place in the presence of several esteemed individuals, including Ammar Boudla’a, the Director of the University of M’sila, and the Director of the House of Contractors. The session also included the President of the Transport Commission of the People’s Provincial Assembly and representatives from the Transport Directorate. The attendance of these authorities reflects the recognition and acknowledgment of the significance of Djerarda’s achievement and the potential impact of his innovative project on road safety.

Intellectual Property Protection

In addition to the academic recognition received, Djerarda’s project has also been granted a patent and a “LabelMark” from the National Institute for the Protection of Intellectual and Industrial Property. This recognition not only protects Djerarda’s intellectual property rights but also highlights the novelty and inventiveness of his project.

Imadeddine Djerarda’s exceptional academic achievement as the first Algerian student to obtain a full mark of 20/20 in his master’s degree is noteworthy on its own. However, his accomplishment goes beyond academic excellence. Djerarda’s innovative project addressing driver drowsiness and distraction using artificial intelligence has the potential to make a significant impact on road safety in Algeria. With the support and recognition received from academic and transportation authorities, Djerarda’s groundbreaking work serves as a testament to the power of innovation and its ability to address critical challenges in society.
