Algiers – December 2025 – In a firm and unequivocal assessment of Algerian-Tunisian relations, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, hailed the remarkable momentum that has characterized bilateral economic and commercial cooperation in recent years. Speaking at the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian High Joint Commission held in Tunis, Attaf underscored that the partnership between the two neighboring nations has now reached a strategic threshold reflecting their shared political determination to elevate cooperation across all domains.
Attaf emphasized that both the value of trade exchanges and the volume of reciprocal investments have witnessed a notable surge — a development that, in his view, calls for additional support and sustained encouragement to fully capitalize on the trajectory achieved thus far.
The foreign minister highlighted a striking figure: a 42% increase in bilateral trade over the last three years, bringing the overall volume to an estimated 2.3 billion USD in 2024. He described this trend as “a positive signal” attesting to the robustness and credibility of the economic partnership binding Algiers and Tunis. He further recalled that Tunisia has now become Algeria’s second-largest trading partner in Africa — a testament to the accelerating dynamism of the bilateral relationship and the promising horizons for its further expansion.
Attaf also welcomed the growing diversification of joint investment projects, noting that cooperation is no longer confined to the energy sector but is now extending into an array of strategic fields. This shift, he said, contributes significantly to broadening the foundations of the economic partnership and enhancing its long-term resilience.
Yet, beyond figures and strategic sectors, Attaf reaffirmed that the human dimension remains the central pillar of Algerian-Tunisian relations. He recalled the depth of the historical and social bonds uniting the two peoples — ties that continue to bolster the capacity of both nations to confront shared regional and global challenges.
The minister also commended the measures undertaken to facilitate citizen mobility and strengthen transport services, both terrestrial and aerial. Of particular significance, he noted, is the resumption of railway connections between Algeria and Tunisia — a major step forward that will reinvigorate human and economic exchanges while consolidating proximity and cohesion between the two countries.
