Algiers, Algeria | October 27th, 2024 — From Cairo, where he arrived Sunday for a working and fraternal visit, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering stance on major issues affecting the region, specifically regarding Palestine, Libya, and Sudan. Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at a joint press conference, President Tebboune emphasized, “Our position on Palestine, Libya, and Sudan will not change.” This consistent stance underscores Algeria’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting just causes and maintaining a strict non-interference policy, which form the core principles of its foreign policy.

Algeria’s Commitment to Peace in Palestine

President Tebboune highlighted Algeria’s role in seeking a truce in Palestine, describing the situation in Gaza as a “genocide” against a resilient people steadfastly refusing to abandon their homeland. “Our hearts ache for our Palestinian brothers,” Tebboune declared, denouncing the deprivation of food and medicine inflicted by the occupying forces. He reiterated that Algeria is working toward establishing a ceasefire to allow essential humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.

With Palestine as a central priority at the United Nations Security Council, Algeria remains vocal in its call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and for meaningful steps toward a peaceful resolution. Algeria upholds the Palestinians’ right to self-governance in Gaza, advocating, if necessary, for collaborative support with countries like Egypt. Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East El Quds as its capital.

Non-Interference and a Political Solution for Sudan and Libya

Algeria’s steadfast principles extend to Sudan and Libya, where it firmly opposes interference in internal matters and advocates for political solutions to ongoing crises. Expressing sorrow over the conflict in Sudan, President Tebboune stressed that Algeria would only engage in this crisis under a framework of reconciliation, reaffirming Algeria’s stance against intervention unless it supports peace-building among the Sudanese.

In Libya, Algeria’s position remains unchanged: a Libyan-led solution is essential, with a path to stability best achieved through general elections that would provide the necessary legitimacy to future leaders. Algeria firmly believes that such a solution should be free from foreign interference to fully serve the interests of the Libyan people.

These are the principles Algeria upholds and will continue to defend, regardless of the challenges faced. They remain the unwavering foundation of Algeria’s approach to regional issues, grounded in a commitment to justice, sovereignty, and respect for the autonomy of nations.
