Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 15, 2025 | In an affirmation of Algeria’s unwavering commitment to international justice and ethical diplomacy, the Secretary General of the General Association of the Machiakha for Conciliation in Africa, Mohamed Larbi Chaïchi, paid tribute to the country’s consistent support for just causes across the globe. His remarks came on Monday during the opening session of the 2nd Scientific Colloquium held in Algiers under the theme “Mechanisms of Conciliation and Support for Just Causes,” organized by the association and attended by prominent religious and academic figures.

Speaking in the presence of Algeria’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, Chaïchi emphasized that Algeria’s principled stance—embodied by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune—derives from the nation’s revolutionary heritage, ethical convictions, and deep-rooted religious values. “These references,” he stated, “have elevated Algeria’s voice on the international stage, even amid complex geopolitical challenges.”

A nation aligned with the oppressed, not the oppressors

“Algeria has chosen to be a voice for the oppressed rather than an echo of the oppressors,” declared Chaïchi, framing the country’s diplomatic outreach not merely as a tool of statecraft but as a profound humanitarian mission grounded in justice and solidarity. According to him, Algerian diplomacy embodies a “historical and ethical message,” committed to mediating conflicts, initiating dialogue, and defending the rights of the vulnerable as enshrined in international law.

Chaïchi further noted that Algeria’s support for just causes transcends conventional political or legal postures—it represents “the manifestation of a living conscience.” He lauded the Algerian state’s deployment of diplomatic instruments such as political mediation, initiatives aimed at reconciliation, and unwavering denunciation of injustices committed against oppressed peoples.

An ethical compass rooted in revolution and spiritual legacy

The colloquium, held in the capital Algiers, gathered a distinguished audience including the President of the High Islamic Council (HCI), Mabrouk Zaid El Kheir, prominent Sufi sheikhs, representatives of religious brotherhoods (zaouias), Quranic school leaders, and academic scholars. Collectively, they underscored that Algeria’s ethical diplomacy remains anchored in the spirit of its liberation struggle and the spiritual foundations of its Islamic institutions.

In his address, Chaïchi underlined that Algeria’s approach constitutes “a noble realization of supreme human and moral values,” reiterating that justice must be served not only through laws and diplomacy but also through the spiritual and moral conscience of a nation that has long aligned itself with liberation movements and oppressed peoples.
