Algiers, Algeria | July 18th, 2024 —Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, is actively participating in the 45th session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, which commenced on Thursday in Accra, Ghana.
During the opening session, Attaf conducted bilateral meetings with several key counterparts. His discussions with the Mauritanian Minister, who chairs the Executive Council and currently holds the AU presidency, centered on the session’s agenda, strategies for enhancing bilateral relations, and the latest developments in the Sahel-Saharan region.
In his meeting with the representative from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Attaf focused on the session’s agenda and diplomatic progress concerning the Sahrawi issue. They aimed to strengthen coordination and explore collaborative opportunities across various domains.
Attaf also engaged in talks with Rwanda’s representative, exchanging perspectives on the Executive Council’s agenda, evaluating the current state of bilateral relations, and discussing strategies to elevate these relations ahead of upcoming high-level meetings.
The ongoing session is primarily dedicated to addressing administrative and financial matters pertaining to the AU and advancing collective African initiatives, as outlined in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad’s statement.
