Algeria and India Reaffirm Strategic Ties and Diplomatic Solidarity Amidst Regional Tensions

Algiers, Algeria | April 30th, 2025 — Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received a telephone call on Tuesday from his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in a diplomatic exchange that underscored the strategic depth of bilateral relations and joint commitment to regional stability and global security.

According to an official communiqué issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused on reviewing the outcomes of the Indian President’s State visit to Algeria in October 2024, which marked a significant milestone in the historic ties between the two nations. The two ministers explored avenues to further consolidate cooperation in anticipation of upcoming diplomatic milestones, notably the convening of the Algeria-India Joint Commission.

The phone call also provided an opportunity for Algeria to reiterate its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism. Minister Attaf firmly denounced the heinous terrorist attack that recently struck the Indian city of Pahalgam, claiming numerous civilian casualties, both dead and wounded. Reaffirming Algeria’s longstanding position at the United Nations Security Council, he condemned the act with the “utmost firmness,” extending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and to the Indian government, and wished a swift recovery to those injured.

In his remarks, Attaf stressed Algeria’s consistent stance on conflict resolution, emphasizing that peace and security must be preserved through dialogue, mutual restraint, and unwavering commitment to peaceful means — regardless of the complexity of disputes. He reaffirmed Algeria’s support for international efforts rooted in diplomacy and multilateralism, a principle that continues to guide its foreign policy.
